Why Oregon
The University of Oregon is a nationally recognized leader in sustainability education, research, and campus operations. We have award-winning programs in green building design, sustainable communities and transportation, solar energy production, green chemistry and nanotechnology, climate change, and natural resource use. Our Sustainable Business program and our Environmental Design programs have recently been nationally recognized as exemplars for sustainability in the United States. We work to integrate university resources and students with sustainability initiatives in Oregon communities.
The State of Oregon is also commited to sustainable development. The State’s innovative landuse and natural resource preservation efforts are exemplars for the rest of the country. Oregon has also passed legislation supporting the development of alternative energy sources, carbon emission reduction, and green-minded businesses.
The Oregon Leadership in Sustainability (OLIS) Graduate Certificate program is an outgrowth of the University’s commitment to providing leadership in interdisciplinary graduate sustainability studies.
